GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Plans are being made to bring more students back on campus at UW Green Bay this fall.
While UW Green Bay’s campus has seen a lot less students in classrooms, and more at Covid-19 campus testing sites, officials are hopeful for a return to almost normal next school year.
UWGB Interim Provost Kate Burns said, “Our plan is also to be back in the fall in terms of a whole lot of in-person classes.”
That’s news students are looking forward to after a year of most classes being online.
“To me, it’s just a lot easier being in-person,” said UWGB junior Colin Jeantet.
“It will be nice to have that in-person experience again, be able to connect with your classmates and professors,” said junior Caleb Deering.
But the virtual option for students won’t be totally eliminated.
“One thing we learned during the pandemic is students want a variety of options, so we are still going to be offering hybrid and online options,” said Burns.
Classes being offered for next semester will be about 75% in-person, 25% online.
“Before the pandemic, we were closer to about 85% or so in-person. We are seeing a greater increase just because there is more of a demand for those online classes,” said Burns.
UWGB isn’t only planning to have more in-person classes in the fall. The university also plans to have fans back in the stands, cheering on the Phoenix.
“Being able to support our community, be in the stands. It was kind of a shame we weren’t able to go to any basketball games, women’s basketball, or soccer, volleyball. All that stuff, we really missed it,” said junior Jordan Arthur.
As for which protocols might still be in place on campus, UWGB says to stay tuned.
“We will, as I said, closely monitor what we need to do, but it’s too soon to predict what the fall will look like in terms of what we have for safety guidelines,” said Burns.
In the mean time, UWGB is encouraging faculty and students to get the vaccine when it’s their turn.
UWGB also says it hopes to see more students return to living in residence halls. They say fewer students are living there this year.
