GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Fox Valley Technical College is planning to offer more in-person classes during the fall semester.
The college says almost 60% of programs are currently offering in-person classes, and the plan is to expand that when students return after the summer break.
“A little over 50-percent of our students are doing some sort of hands-on learning. We recognize that many, many of our students need that personal touch, so we’re expanding our capacities in the fall to be able to do that across all of our programs and services,” said Chief Academic Officer Dr. Chris Matheny. “I think it’s hard to say that everything will be absolutely normal. I’m not sure when we’re going to go back to what that looked like pre-pandemic.”
But FVTC does plan to expand online offerings to allow for maximum flexibility for students.
“One of the silver linings of the situation that we’ve been in, is that we learn how to deliver a high quality online education. We were doing that before, but we’ve scaled that to a point where we now have many, many more options for students who need to learn from where they’re at,” Matheny told WTAQ News.
In March, FVTC plans to resume small group on-campus tours. Virtual sessions are also available for prospective students to learn about FVTC and its offerings. Signup is available online.
“[During a] tour, we want students to be able to look and see the environment they’re going to be learning in…We haven’t been able to do that because of the COVID situation, but with vaccines and things like that rolling out, we’re figuring that we’ve got a little bit safer pathway forward to begin to invite students back on our campus and help them make some really informed choices about what their educational pathways look like,” Matheny said. “Now is really the time for individuals who are considering going back to school or getting back to school in the fall, to begin looking at their options. We’re happy to help them navigate the uncertainty of this time when it comes to making an educational choice.”
Campus activities such as clubs and organizations will begin planning fall events and activities across FVTC’s campuses and centers.
FVTC isn’t alone, Green Bay’s Northeast Wisconsin Technical College previously announced plans to return to in-person instruction in the fall.
