GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Bart Starr Memorial Bridge. That’s what the Walnut Street Bridge would be renamed to if a measure put forth by a number of Green Bay area lawmakers is passed.
Reps. David Steffen, John Macco, Kristina Shelton and Sen. Eric Wimberger have introduced the bill to rename the Bridge after Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr.
“In our history in Green Bay, we have named our bridges after sports stars and community leaders,” Steffan told WTAQ. “In Bart Starr, we get both.”
In addition to being a five-time NFL champion, Starr worked with Rawhide Youth Services and the Nitschke Foundation.
Starr died in 2019 at the age of 85.
