(UW ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS) MADISON – In its second-to-last home game of the 2020-21 season, the top-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team blanked Bemidji State, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at LaBahn Arena.
Brette Pettet, Britta Curl, Makenna Webster and Lacey Eden all scored for the Badgers (10-2-1, 10-2-1-1-1-1 WCHA) and goaltender Kennedy Blair had her fourth shutout of the season.
Pettet was first on the board for the Badgers in their first game of the year against the Beavers (2-11-2, 2-11-2-2-4-1 WCHA), netting one just under halfway through the first frame.
Minutes later, Curl found a way to beat BSU netminder Kerigan Dowhy to double the UW lead.
After a scoreless second period, Webster put one in the net just five minutes into the final frame, increasing the Badgers lead to three.
Shortly after, Eden was able to capitalize on the power play, scoring her fourth goal in four series to wrap up the scroing for UW
Three Notes of the Game:

Head coach Mark Johnson
On the game:
“It was a good game for us from the standpoint that a couple kids got on the score sheet that will help us down the road. We knew what we were going to be up against with a competitive and hard working Bemidji State team.”
On performance from the freshmen:
“I thought Casey (O’Brien) and Makenna (Webster) probably played one of their better games, obviously Makenna getting on the score sheet and Casey having a couple assists, but I thought they practiced all week, well. I talked to all the freshmen a couple of days ago about just the general information about college hockey and stepping in. I basically discussed sending them to the wolves because of our twelve games, eight of them are against two of the top teams in the country and that’s not normally where a freshman gets introduced to women’s college hockey.”
Freshman Lacey Eden
On her fearlessness:
“There’s nothing really to lose. I’ve been an aggressive player my entire life. Growing up playing with boys really taught me how to handle physical play. I just brought that same game when I came here and every game I’ve tried to build on it.”
Senior Kennedy Blair
On staying focused during dry spells:
“It’s harder to stay focused in these games because we’ve been playing Minnesota, Ohio State, Minnesota again and Ohio State again. I think this was our first series with them so for me, it’s pretty hard staying focused getting 30 to 35 shots a game and then coming to this. For me, I think I just have to have fun with it. Sometimes I talk to myself, sometimes I sing. You have to be all in it and have fun as well. Cheering on my teammates when they’re doing their jobs helps me stay focused too.”
