OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team, also known as SWAT, will be holding their annual training at the Fox River Mall on Sunday.
The Sheriff’s Office reports the training was planned prior to the deadly shooting at the mall back on January 31st and has occurred annually for several years.
While the active training will occur after the mall has closed, and all patrons and employees have left, it is likely officers and police vehicles will be present at the mall prior to closing time. Authorities want the public to be aware, so they are not alarmed.
The Outagamie County Emergency Response Team consists of officers from multiple agencies within the county, so squads from all of those agencies may be present.
The Sheriff’s Office adds that this type of training is critical to maintain officers’ familiarity with the Fox River Mall complex and to plan for effective responses to critical incidents.
