(GREENBAYPHOENIX.COM) GREEN BAY – The Green Bay women’s basketball team came up short in its effort for a sweep of IUPUI on Saturday at the Kress Center, falling 68-61 with the Jaguars icing the game late at the free throw line. GB (8-4 HL) trailed by just three with inside six minutes to play, but couldn’t get any closer as the Jaguars (7-3 HL) made eight-straight shots, two field goals and six free throws to earn the split.
Caitlyn Hibner followed yesterday’s strong performance with another solid outing, finishing with 16 points and five rebounds to lead the way offensively for GB. Turnovers proved to be the difference in the game though, with the Phoenix committing 18 turnovers to IUPUI’s 11. The Jaguars turned those turnovers into 18 points and grabbed 11 offensive rebounds, which they converted into 21 points.
GB did shoot almost 50 percent, making 25 of its 51 attempts, including 5 of its 11 3-point attempts. The 11 attempts marked the fewest by GB in a game this season, while the defense held IUPUI to only 7 makes on 28 attempts on the other end.
The Phoenix bench came on strong, with Cassie Schiltz scoring 13 on 5-for-8 shooting. Brooklyn Blackburn was effective on both ends of the court, scoring seven points and snagging a career-high 13 rebounds, with six coming on the offensive end. GB had 27 points off the bench in total, outdueling IUPUI in that category by 11.
IUPUI was led by Rachel McLimore with 23 points and Macee Williams with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Jags went 17-for-22 from the charity stripe.
