BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – While much of the focus has been on the COVID 19 vaccinations that are now underway, Brown County leaders don’t want you to forget about the flu shot this year.
Health officials are urging everyone six months and older to get the shot as soon as possible.
“It is easy to forget about influenza this year, with so much information and effort being dedicated to COVID-19. But it is important to know that it is still critical, especially those who are 65 or older, or those that have underlying health conditions, get the flu vaccine,” Brown County Public Health Officer Anna Destree said.
Health officials are especially pushing seniors to get the shot, because during the last flu season, adults 65 and older made up less than 18% of Wisconsin’s population, but the group accounted for 42% of flu-related hospitalizations and 84% of flu-related deaths.
