MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) — Wisconsin’s first large-scale solar facility is now online.
The Two Creeks Solar Park in Manitowoc features 500,000 solar panels over 800 acres.
WPS spokesman Matt Cullen says it’s already churning out power.
“It’s capable of generating 150 megawatts,” Cullen told WTAQ. “To give you an idea of how many homes that can power, it’s more than 33,000.”
Construction on that facility first began in August of last year. It’s a part of the company’s long-term goal to reduce emissions.
“Wisconsin Public Service has set aggressive goals to reduce carbon emissions,” Cullen said Friday. “Our long term goal is to be net carbon neutral in the generation facilities that we operate by the year 2050.”
WPS is working on another facility, the Badger Hollow One Solar Park, in Southwestern Wisconsin as well.
