The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) just kicked off a new program called Consumer Protection 101 or CP101. The goal is to introduce young adults to consumer protection issues like protecting yourself from scams, keeping financial information safe, and online security through video lessons on YouTube and social media. We assume that older people are the main targets for a scam, but the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Sentinel shows that people in their 20s and 30s are 25% more likely to lose money due to a scam. That’s one more reason a course like this can help millennials.
