GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – UW-Green Bay is introducing a new vice chancellor for Inclusivity and Student Affairs.
Dr. Corey King brings more than 27 years of higher education experience in student affairs, student services, and enrollment management to the University, and is recognized by regional and national student affairs associations for his work as a student affairs leader.
“This position is unique because it’s combined both student affairs and inclusivity under one division which is brilliant…The fact that the university has placed so much emphasis that they have a chief person really speaks to what all institutions should be doing as we educate our students in our the the global market,” King said. “Number one – I’m all about being student centered. Continuing to serve students in the university environment is very important to me…This is a great opportunity for me and my role to come to Wisconsin and be a champion for diversity and inclusiveness, and making the University of Green Bay a light or beacon for diversity and inclusiveness.”
King is know for working with diversity and inclusion through his leadership in establishing an Urban Male Institute focused on the recruitment, retention, and graduation of urban males and a First-Generation Student Success Center geared toward providing support services and scholarships to the upward social mobility of first- generation students.
“You want to make sure that student experience is diverse, that it is inclusive, that it’s welcoming. You want to make sure that it involves faculty, staff, and the administration as well as the university community,” King explained.
In addition, as an associate graduate faculty member, he taught graduate courses focused on student affairs leadership, contemporary and diversity issues, and comparative internationalization in higher education. He has also taught at the undergraduate level through the first-year seminar.
And while King has nearly three decades of work and accolades under his belt, the timing of the new opportunity is big.
“There is so much work to be done in terms of laying the foundation and just building on the diversity and inclusiveness that’s required given what’s happening in our country today,” King told WTAQ News. “We want our student body as well as the campus community to reflect the diversity and inclusiveness of our world.”
King is set to start on September 21st.
