NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Another local community is issuing an order requiring masks – but only for city employees and visitors to government buildings.
Neenah city employees will be required to wear face masks when in common areas, meeting with other employees or when interacting with the public. The public are encouraged to wear masks when entering government buildings but it will only be required when entering a specific department.
“Protecting our employees and protecting the public that comes to government buildings is a responsibility that I have,” says Mayor Dean Kaufert.
Kaufert decided to only issue the order for their own facilities, because a wider mandate could be difficult to enforce.
“To have one community do it, and then all of the surrounding communities not do it – when that person might live in your community, but live in another community – you need a broader base,” Kaufert says.
Accommodations will be made for anyone who informs the city that they cannot wear a mask because of medical condition, mental condition, or disability.
The city says it will review this order at least every 30 days and can be altered at any time if conditions change.
Mask rules in other communities around the area include:
Appleton
The city’s mayor urges people to where a mask, however it is not required.
Green Bay
The city of Green Bay requires masks to be worn in indoor public places.
There are a few exceptions including if you are working out at a gym, or have a medical condition.
The mask mandate does not apply if you are outdoors.
Enforcement for the mandate will be treated similar to trespassing: if you enter a business and refuse to wear a mask, that business can call local law enforcement in repsonse.
Oshkosh
The city of Oshkosh doesn’t have a mask mandate at this time, but its city council is expected to discuss one at its next meeting on August 11.
De Pere
De Pere has approved a mask mandate, but it has not taken effect.
The city council will discuss an ordinance more at its next meeting on August 4.
Allouez
Allouez’s village board is set to debate its own mask mandate on August 4.
Ashwaubenon
Ashwaubenon has no mask mandate, and the administrator says no discussion is on the table at this time.
