MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Department of Workforce Development says there were 24,075 initial applications filed the week ending June 13. This is compared to 22,497 the week prior.
DWD distributed more than $1.6 billion in benefits to Wisconsinites since the coronavirus pandemic hit.
Between March 15 and June 13, $1,862,881,553 have been paid out to claimants. This includes Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), an increase of $600 per week in unemployment benefits.
“As Wisconsin businesses begin to reopen, the landscape of the workforce will likely look different,” DWD Secretary Frostman said. “DWD is diligently working to not only assist people in their UI claims but also provide training and supportive services to get people back on their feet and into jobs that provide family supporting wages.”
The DWD says it received 3,189,215 weekly claims and paid 2,329,816 of those.
It also received 72,757 Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) claims, for those not eligible for regular unemployment insurance.
