APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — “When it was less than a hundred (people), we was up there and we will continue being up there, over there, down there, everywhere,” said protest organizer Ray Wright. “They will hear us. We will be heard.”
Crowds in Appleton continue to show up and protest.
“Ever since last week the youth has been out here peacefully protesting,” said Cainan Davenport of Appleton. “I learned as well that they clean up after the protest. The youth in the city of Appleton loves Appleton and they deserve equal rights, period. black lives do matter.”
The organizers range in age from teens to people in their mid-twenties. It’s a young group that’s caught the eye of the community.
“We did this. This is our community, our young generation standing on the frontlines and making this happen,” said organizer Darren Fields. “We didn’t get permission from the mayor, we didn’t get permission from police officers or anything like that. At the end of the day, it’s our first amendment, right?”
“We are the next generation and our kids are too,” said organizer Brooklyn Williams. “This is why people our age need to be more educated so this education passes through to the next generation and stuff like this won’t have to happen anymore.”
“This peaceful thing isn’t going on around the country, so when you’ve got a group of youth, a group of people period that’s keeping it peaceful, you’ve got to be proud and I’m proud of Appleton,” said Davenport.
