GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The city of Green Bay is preparing for the next two elections by calling for poll workers.
Green Bay city clerk Kris Teske is calling on residents of Brown County willing to serve as poll workers for the Aug. 11 and Nov. 3 elections to replace poll workers who are unable to serve due to age or health concerns from the coronavirus pandemic. During the April 7 election, many poll workers opted to stay home, leading the city to consolidate 31 polling places to two. That resulted in long lines at the polls.
The city has about 240 poll workers. A significant number of them are in their 60s and 70s, and many may have other health conditions.
In Wisconsin, poll workers, or election inspectors as they call them, are appointed at the municipal level.
Anyone who is interested in working should contact the clerk’s office as soon as possible at (920) 448-3010 or ClerkInquiries@greenbaywi.gov.
Green Bay will provide virtual training for any new poll worker.
In the April 7 election, COVID-19 created a shortage of poll workers, resulting in long lines on Election Day in Green Bay.
