MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Community leaders in Marinette are asking residents for help after an apartment fire displaced multiple families last week.
As a result of a May 28th fire at Marinette Woods Apartments on W. Cleveland Ave., more than 14 families were displaced after the building was condemned.
Of those 14 families, fire officials say six families lost everything they had.
The American Red Cross, St Joseph SSVdP Conference, and Abundant Life Mission have helped shelter most of the families, while others decided to stay with other family members.
The following organizations have helped the families with other necessities like food and clothing: Marinette Fire Department, American Red Cross, Marinette District Council of the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVdP), the St Joseph SSVdP Conference, North East Wisconsin Community Action Program (NEWCAP), Marinette School District, Abundant Life Mission, Dorothy’s Haven of Hope, and the National Society of St Vincent de Paul Disaster Services.
If the public would like to help, immediate needs are donations of food, linen and clothing to the Marinette District Council SVdP Thrift Store can be donated on Thursday and Friday only. Abundant Life Mission “Second Chances” Thrift Shoppe will accept the linen and clothing needed for the families as well and the Shelter will be accepting food any day to serve the families.
The Marinette District Council of the Society of St Vincent de Paul and St Joseph SSVdP Conference wrote a $5,000 Rapid Recovery Grant to the SSVdP National Disaster Services, which they hope to match with community donations.

Donations to Abundant Life Mission would also be appreciated to 1406 10th Avenue, Menominee MI 49858 for purchase of additional foods and appreciation of housing the displaced families.
The families at the Abundant Life Mission will have 90 days to secure shelter. Once they secure housing, they will need household items, kitchen utensils, dishes, beds and frames, mattresses, etc.
When those items will be needed, officials will release more details.
