UPDATE 5:09 PM: Ashwaubenon has issued a similar order to the one issued earlier Monday in Green Bay.
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich has set a 9PM curfew, effective this evening, a day after riots broke out on the city’s east side in response to the police custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
The curfew order will be enforced until Wednesday morning. Residents are directed to say home between the hours of 9PM and 6AM, but only pertains to those gathering in groups. Police will not pull over residents who are going to work or are otherwise engaged in lawful activity.
Ashwaubenon has also issued their own curfew. The Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department will focus their attention on large crowds or those suspected of criminal behavior.
Several community leaders spoke at a Monday press conference regarding the rioting that occured Sunday night. A Marathon Gas Station on the corner of Monroe and Walnut was rushed by a crowd and looted. Someone outside that store then fired into the store. Nobody was struck. Initial reports claimed it may have been a store employee that fired into the store, but police now believe the shooter was not associated with the store.
Several arrests were made. Tear gas and rubber bullets were fired at the crowd after they began throwing bricks and rocks at police.
There is word that additional protests are planned for Monday evening.
