GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Antibody testing for the COVID-19 Coronavirus has begun in Brown County.
Prevea Health and Bellin Health are both offering COVID-19 antibody testing, but Health Department Spokesperson Claire Paprocki says it won’t necessarily tell you if you’ve had the virus.
“Antibody testing does not tell you if you had COVID,” said Paprocki. “It tells you if you’ve been exposed to COVID.”
Prevea CEO Dr. Ashok Rai says the test can help determine who can give plasma to help treat COVID-19 patients.
“When you have that antibody, you can use [your] plasma to treat other people,” said Rai.
Convalescent plasma therapy has been used throughout the country, and is believed to assist in treating the disease.
The tests are not available in a drive-thru capacity, as the COVID-19 swab tests were. Antibody tests are conducted through blood draw.
