APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A joint veteran service organization helped honor veterans at five Appleton cemeteries Sunday.
The group had a processional that started at Riverside Cemetery, before going to St. Joseph Cemetery, Moses Montefiore Cemetery, Highland Memorial Park and St. Mary Cemetery.
The group consisted of an honor guard with members of the various local veteran service organizations.
The members participated in a ceremony at each cemetery, which consisted of presenting the colors, a bugler playing ‘Taps,’ and a 21-gun salute.
The joint veteran service organization did this before the scheduled Memorial Day “Moment of Remembrance” for the City of Appleton, which will happen online.
Officials canceled the parade because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the veteran groups felt that something still needed to be done.
