MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Marcus Theatres, which operates the Cedar Creek Cinemas in Rothschild, is announcing plans to reopen its facilities within the next six weeks.
President and CEO Greg Marcus says the plan involves reducing theater capacity and rolling out more no-contact options for ticketing and concessions. That would include things like popcorn and pizza that can be ordered on your phone then picked up in time for your movie.
Marcus already offers no-contact online ticketing through outlets like Fandango, which allow moviegoers to reserve seats then pick up the tickets at a kiosk or use a bar code on their phones for entry.
Capacity in theaters would be reduced by leaving two empty seats between every set of two seats sold. Marcus says that would amount to about six feet on either side. Many Marcus theaters already have six to seven feet of space in between rows thanks to reclining seats.
An exact opening date has not been set, but Marcus says they are aiming for late June or early July.
The COVID-19 outbreak forced many Hollywood studios to delay major films such as Marvel’s Black Widow and the latest James Bond flick No Time to Die. Marcus says the action/thriller Tenet written and directed by Christopher Nolan is expected to be the first big film to hit theaters when they reopen.
Marcus operates a total of 23 locations in Wisconsin and dozens more theaters in 16 other states.
