APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fox Valley-based blood bank now has the capability to test donors to see if they can donate plasma to help COVID-19 patients recover.
The Community Blood Center says it now has the capability to test people’s blood to see if they have antibodies for the new coronavirus. Plasma from those people, called convalescent plasma, has been used to treat some patients with serious cases of COVID-19.
To be eligible for testing, donors must have either had a positive test for the coronavirus or had symptoms of COVID-19 but did not receive a test, no longer be experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, and meet all other blood donation criteria.
CBC is planning to begin offering tests the first week in June.
