STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The trial in a lawsuit between a former Green Bay alderman and mayor is at least a year away from happening, a judge said Thursday.
Former Ald. Guy Zima filed a civil defamation suit against former Mayor Jim Schmitt, alleging emails and comments by Schmitt damaged his reputation.
A scheduling conference was held online today (Thursday) due to the court’s rules about social distancing. Because Zima’s attorney had a family emergency, it was reset for June 8th.
Door County Judge David Weber noted that due to the backlog of court cases, and the priority criminal and other cases will have, he believes that a trial date is likely more than a year away.
