GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Things might be a little less red, white, and blue this Memorial day weekend.
With Memorial Day typically comes honor guards marching in parades across the state, flags held aloft as hundreds wave hand-flags while flag-draped floats go past and families leave flags on the graves of relatives who served. With the cancellation of Memorial Day parades, the flag industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This time of the year we’re normally slammed,” said Stacey Stewart, owner of Fly Me Flag in Green Bay. “We’ve had our doors closed for about seven weeks… We were still processing orders but it hasn’t felt like our normal rush.”
Stewart says online orders have been increasing, but have not made up for the lack of demand.
“We do business with so many other businesses,” said Stewart. “With so many being closed I think that their flags and flagpoles… have kind of been abandoned.”
Fly Me Flag’s South Ashland Avenue location has reopened to the public. They’re open from 8a-5p weekdays and 9a-1p on Saturday.
