GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) Residents along the bay of Green Bay are being warned of potential flooding the next two days.
The National Weather Service has issued a Lakeshore Flood Warning for Brown and Oconto Counties from Sunday at 1 p.m. through Monday at 7 p.m.
East to northeast winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts to 40 miles per hour could cause flooding on the bayshore, according to the warning.
Green Bay Metro Fire Department is reminding people not to drive through flood waters or around barricades. It also recommends people in flood prone areas have a “go bag” incase they are asked to evacuate immediately.
A number of city streets are experiencing high water issues and this has resulted in road closures is some areas.
Ashland Avenue at West Walnut Street and School Place will be closed until the water recedes.
Shawano Avenue between Oak Street and Hazel Street is currently impassable and will be closed for some time.
The 500 block of South Broadway Street is also barricaded due to high water issues.
The 200 block of South Ashland Avenue is closed for the same reason.North Broadway Street at Prairie Street is experiencing flooding and signs have been placed to warn drivers.
Drivers are encouraged to find alternate roadways if they must travel today.
This weather event is anticipated to continue for some time. A notification will be sent once the water levels recede to a point where travel is safe.
