GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Not a lot is changing for Green Bay Police now that “Safer at Home” is no more.
Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith says while officers won’t be in an enforcement role regarding pandemic restrictions, they’ll still be in an educational one.
“What we’re gonna do is try to educate people; look this is not a safe way of behaving right now having a lot of people in a small space. We’re going to encourage people not to do that,” Smith said. “But we’re not going to cite people. Nobody’s going to get arrested.”
They’ll still be wearing personal protective equipment and practicing social distancing to keep officers healthy. Police are also disinfecting their cars regularly.
“Our officers have been healthy,” said Smith. We had one individual that came down with COVID-19. He’s back at work. All our officers are back at work. If we have to quarantine someone for a short period of time we do it.”
Green Bay Police Officer Dan Skenandore’s illness was announced April 5th. He returned to work in late April.
