GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Area Public School District has come up with a plan to safely honor the Class of 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
All four high schools in the district will have their own virtual graduation ceremony, airing on Green Bay Public Television (Spectrum Channel 4) at 7:00 p.m.
- June 11 – West High School
- June 13 – East High School
- June 18 – Southwest High School
- June 25 – Preble High School
You can also watch the ceremonies for all schools, including John Dewey Academy of Learning (JDAL) and Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation (NEW Innovation), on YouTube.
The district says the downtown Green Bay bridges will be lit to honor seniors; dates to be determined.
Starting Monday, the community will start seeing digital billboards throughout the city that will honor the Class of 2020, as well as Senior Strong Yard Signs placed in front of the homes of seniors.
“I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to each member of the Class of 2020,” said superintendent Michelle Langenfeld. “Through their many sacrifices and selflessness by honoring the Safer at Home Order and the Department of Public Health guidelines, they have helped to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. The Senior Class of 2020 will be remembered for their remarkable resilience, incredible courage and perseverance in the face of adversity.”
The district says it continues to keep open the possibility for schools to hold in-person graduation celebrations to honor seniors in late summer, should circumstances allow.
