GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Authorities have released the names of those involved in a deadly officer-involved shooting last weekend in Green Bay.
On May 9, officers were called to the 2800 block of University Ave. for a report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers say they saw 42-year-old Elder Melgar, fire a gun at another person at the scene.
Both Green Bay officers Roman J. Trimberger, 5 years law enforcement experience, and Nicholas J. Walvort, 7 years law enforcement experience, fired their weapons toward Melgar, who died at the scene.
Another man, 34-year-old Manuel Hernandez, was arrested after the incident and is being held in the Brown County Jail.
No law enforcement personnel or other individuals were injured during the incident.
Both officers have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
DCI is leading the investigation and is assisted by the Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Wisconsin State Patrol, and DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services.
