(WTAQ-WLUK) — The public is invited to participate in an online meeting to discuss improvements to Interstate 41 between Grand Chute and De Pere.
The online meeting is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday. A question-and-answer session is scheduled to follow the live meeting. Questions can be submitted through YouTube or by email at DOTDTSDNERI41@dot.wi.gov.
Money for the project was included in the 2019-21 state budget. Currently, the 23-mile stretch of highway between Wisconsin Avenue (Highway 96) in Grand Chute and Scheuring Road (Highway F) in De Pere is four lanes. Currently, the DOT says 74,000 vehicles travel the road each day. That number is projected to increase by 20,000 vehicles per day in 30 years.
Construction is taking into account a possible expansion of the interstate to six lanes as well as new designs for each of the nine existing and one proposed interchange along the stretch.
A schedule for construction has not been set. Regulatory approval, engineering and land acquisitions are scheduled through 2024, with construction beginning after that.
