Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur has established a Minority Coaching Fellowship. The program is a first for the organization and it's designed to assist aspiring minority coaches who want to embark on that career path. It's a full-time year-long position on the Packers coaching staff.
His first fellow is no stranger to the Packers, or to LaFleur. Former wide receiver Ruvell Martin was named as LaFleur's first fellowship recipient. Martin was an undrafted free agent out of Saginaw Valley State in 2004, after catching passes from Saginaw's quarterback at the time, Matt LaFleur. After failing to make San Diego's roster as a rookie, Martin played in NFL Europe helping Amsterdam to that league's title in 2005.He was then signed by the Packers where he spent three years developing a close relationship with Aaron Rodgers as scout team partners working against Green Bay's number one defense.
Martin caught 52 passes for 749 yards and six touchdowns between 2006 and 2008 before moving on to finish his career with the St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills before he retired after the 2012 season.
Martin will work with the offense and wide receivers during his year-long Fellowship with the Packers.
