GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – What will it take to win Wisconsin in November? Republicans and Democrats are preparing for the presdiential election, although the campaign trail looks quite different this year.
“He’s offering solutions, he’s showing how he would guide us through this crisis,” said Philip Shulman about presidential candidate Joe Biden.
“He has absolutely been a leader during this pandemic,” said Ronna McDaniel on president Donald Trump.
Both parties say the COVID-19 pandemic will be fresh in voters minds when it’s time to head to the ballot box.
Another fresh memory: the spring election.
“Our state party, we prioritized absentee ballots,” said Shulman.
The Wisconsin Democratic Party spokesman telling FOX 11 the decision to keep in-person polling open will favor Democrats in November.
He adds in the State Supreme Court election, liberal judge Jill Karofsky’s win over conservative incumbent justice, Dan Kelly, also sets the tone for the presidential election, regardless of expected higher turnout.
‘”We told people to just request and absentee, do not risk the polls , this is a matter of public safety. And yet we still won by over 10 points against Donald Trump’s chosen candidate. “
“To see the CARES package pass with bipartisan support I think is very important to the American people,” said Republican National Committee chairman Ronna McDaniel.
She tells FOX 11 voters will remember the relief bills passed under the Trump administration when it comes time to vote.
Despite recent unemployment numbers, she points to job growth as another reason for Trump’s re-election.
“Because we had 500,000 additional manufacturing jobs since he’s been President we’ve been able to continue to make things like ventilators and we need to continue to invest in manufacturing which is critical to Wisconsin.”
But regardless of the differences between the two candidates, at least one issue remains the same.
No one can be sure what voting will look like come November.
