GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — It’s going to be a weird mother’s day–the first in living memory where you won’t be able to walk into a florist at the last minute to grab flowers for your mom.
“Mother’s day is a little different this year for all of us,” said Keela LaFave, a manager at Flowerama in Green Bay and Appleton. “Demand has been a little bit lower so far, but we do expect it to pick up for deliveries and pickups.”
Flowerama and a number of other area florists are open for curbside service and delivery, but you have to call ahead or place an order online.
“Surprisingly, we’ve been pretty busy,” LaFave said. “We’ve had a lot of people come to our doors and ask for the dozen roses that we’re known for. We have a lot of people buying houseplants, things to brighten up their home.”
While many businesses have been allowed to open as of Friday for curbside service, that’s been the case for a while at many florists.
“We’re actually deemed as essential businesses for funeral arrangements, get well arrangements, and all sorts of things like that,” LaFave told WTAQ.
Workers at Flowerama have been wearing personal protective equipment and disinfecting work spaces to help combat the virus.
