GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Stay home, and stay only with those living in your home. That’s the word from Brown County Health as the number of cases of the COVID-19 Coronavirus in the county continues to rise.
The official count this afternoon is 856 cases in Brown County and the Oneida Nation.
Health Department Spokesperson Claire Paprocki says despite warnings, some people are still gathering and spreading the virus in the county.
“Every single person in Brown County, no matter who you are, needs to follow the safer-at-home order,” Paprocki told reporters. “That way we can get a handle on the spike in cases.”
Paprocki says aggressive testing is driving, in part, the increase in case growth. The numbers come a day after the closure of the JBS Packerland meat plant, which was linked to 255 cases in the county. JBS voluntarily closed the plant. It’s the fourth they closed in the United States.
American Food Group and Salm Partners, who were also linked to clusters of cases, are still in operation.
Seven of the reported cases are in the Oneida Nation. There are 25 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in Brown County, 35 people out of isolation and recovering, and two deaths.
