GREENVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A local airport says it has taken a huge hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Appleton International Airport director Abe Weber tells FOX 11 over the last couple of weeks, the airport has seen a 95% reduction on normal passenger loads.
Normally, about 1,500 to 2,000 people pass through the airport’s terminal daily, but lately it has been between 30 to 50 people.
While travel is significantly lower than usual, the airport remains open for essential workers and cargo planes.
Weber says the airport has taken steps to ensure a clean environment so that when travel picks back up again, passengers can feel safe, “So our focus over the last couple of weeks and will continue for our airport is we have implemented deep cleaning practices to ensure we can be a safe, healthy terminal facility for passengers throughout Northeast Wisconsin.”
