MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Milwaukee County has asked the Army Corps of Engineers to set up a field hospital at State Fair Park.
There is already a plan to open a facility for the homeless on the grounds of St. Francis Seminary. The Wisconsin National Guard will run the site, which is expected to begin receiving people in the next few days.
The details of a Coronavirus facility at State Fair Park haven’t been made public yet. The criteria for sending people to the site, instead of a regular hospital, hasn’t been established yet. The Trump Administration has said there will be at least 24 field facilities in 18 states.
More than half of the COVID-19 deaths in the state, 51 as of Tuesday, have been in Milwaukee County. Milwaukee has nearly 1,400 people who’ve tested positive for Coronavirus.
Milwaukee County is also announcing a social distancing plan for public transit. Only 10 passengers will be allowed on public buses. Once a bus is full, it will no longer pick up additional riders.
