GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A domestic abuse shelter in Green Bay is reminding people that they are still open during the coronavirus pandemic.
Golden House says that although Governor Evers enacted “Safer at Home,” it doesn’t necessarily mean everyone is safe at home.
The possibility of domestic violence increases as people living with someone who is prone to abuse and spending more time at home together, under stressful conditions.
Executive director Tonya Dedering tells FOX 11 the shelter also says it has seen an increase of cases from law enforcement.
“The broader data of all the services we provide, it’s too soon to say if we’ve seen an increase in numbers in all those cases, in all the services. We have seen that law enforcement has been called to more calls, and more individuals have needed help through those needs.”
The shelter added that some changes have been made to their operations.
But their emergency shelter, safety planning, and counseling is still available.
Golden House says while they have suspended in-house donations for the time being, they are still accepting monetary donations.
