MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Historians in Manitowoc County want to make sure the voices, stories and images of how the COVID-19 pandemic affected Wisconsin residents are preserved for future generations.
The Manitowoc County Historical Society is collecting information from residents to document the pandemic.
Officials say there are only a few stories and images from prior pandemics such as the flu and tuberculosis outbreaks from the early 1900s. They want more than that to help preserve the history of COVID-19.
Amy Meyer, executive director of the Manitowoc County Historical Society, tells FOX 11 they’re asking residents of all ages to keep a writing or video journal of their experiences during quarantine. What is working from home like? What technology is used for e-learning? What activities or sporting events are closed during the pandemic? Why are people hoarding meat and toilet paper and cleaning products?
“With our situation today, we’d like to collect everything we can from people at home, from medical professionals and essential workers, telling about their daily lives. So whether it be staying at home, or working on school with your children, or going to work we want to hear about it.”
