GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A house just a few blocks from two Green Bay hospitals is serving as a “home away from home” for healthcare workers.
Normally the Altrusa House on E. Mason St., near Bellin and St. Vincent hospitals, offers a place to stay for patients and their caregivers who travel to Green Bay area hospitals for medical treatment.
Now the non-profit organization is taking a different approach during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The house will offer a calm place for healthcare workers to come rest and re-organize.
Healthcare workers can use the laundry and shower facilities, sleep in private rooms and get complimentary snacks and coffee in between or after shifts.
“Our goal is always to help wherever we can, regardless of what that means for us. We decided that with the new need for our health care workers to get some sleep and a shower and not wanting to go home and affect their families, that this would be a great opportunity to serve our healthcare family,” said Altrusa House executive director, Annie Bongiorno.
The Altrusa House will also be accepting donations for items to help its current efforts.
