GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The face of one of the country’s most recognizable doctors is now being featured on something more enjoyable than his typical White House press briefings.
Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe is selling cookies with Dr. Anthony Fauci’s face on them.
“I did get the idea from a bakery in New York – I thought, ‘why don’t we try it’ just because he gives everyone a sense of calmness in a crisis, honesty and everything,” Owner Mike Vande Walle tells WTAQ News, “I think people connect with him. So we started making the cookies. It’s been very interesting and some people buy twenty of them, so it’s been going really well.”
Dr. Fauci is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a doctor for the National Institute of Health. He has also had a major presence during White House briefings addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vande Walle says it’s their way of thanking the doctor for keeping Americans informed. And even with the Safer At Home order in place, between the cookies and other sweets – the bake shops are still staying busy.
“Because so many people are quarantined, people are sending in kringles so they have something to enjoy during this time,” Vande Walle says, “We are doing a fair amount of curbside pickup and we also do mail orders, which has just taken off like crazy.”
All three locations in De Pere, Green Bay, and Suamico are still open. Customers can call ahead for curbside pickup or stop inside the stores.
