GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Six-year incumbent Randy Scannell has never met the challenger to his Green Bay City Council seat, but on Thursday he and the other registered voters in his district received a good idea of who she is when they opened up their mailbox.
Rachel Heu, an investor who also has a real estate license, mailed an unconventional campaign postcard to 7th district voters. In it, she admits not putting much effort into the campaign “and after careful review it occurred to (me) that it’s all (expletive).”
Heu goes on to say, “property taxes have raised to cover unnecessary spending while Green Bay falls past $200 million in debt. If you vote for me, I can help with this problem, along with many others. If not I don’t really give a (expletive), it’s a $9,000 a year job and most of you are probably (expletive) anyway.”
Heu tells FOX 11 she got into the race with a real passion, but now believes Scannell has been lying to his constituents and just wanted to deliver some truth with the postcard.
“I could tell people what they want to hear, or I can wake them up a little bit,” said Heu.
Heu claims Scannell has been lying about many things, although the only example she provided was his reasoning for raising property taxes.
She isn’t sure her $364 investment in the postcards will win her the election, but as stated in the postcard, either way is fine with her.
“In my opinion, it’s a coin toss,” said Heu. “If they vote for me, great, I can help them out. If they don’t, I completely understand.”
“Well I’ll be doing a mailer, a little different,” said Scannell while laughing when asked how he will be campaigning amid COVID-19 concerns.
Scannell says he’d like to hear about any city money that has been wasted on his watch. He says it would be irresponsible to run a government without debt, and the important thing is how a government manages its debt.
“I know there are some people who think being crass is being honest and telling it like it is, but I think if you really look at what she’s saying, she’s saying that campaigning is (profanity), which means really she’s too lazy to do the work to get elected,” said Scannell.
“If they want to continue to be lied to, please vote for Randy Scannell, but if you want the truth, vote for me,” said Heu.
The election is April 7.
