GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Brown County 911 Center is getting ready to take calls from people who believe they might have COVID-19–something that’s happened in Fond Du Lac and Waukesha Counties.
Brown County 911 Director Cullen Peltier says you shouldn’t call them if you think you might have the virus.
“Do not call 911 if you’re exhibiting signs and symptoms,” Peltier told WTAQ. “Contact your provider first. Contact 911 if it’s a medical emergency.”
Many cases of COVID-19 are not severe enough to require hospitalization.
Peltier says there was a jump in calls Wednesday after the first cases in the county were announced.
“We’ve have some calls related to the confirmed case that was in and around the courthouse from people wanting to know what to do in relation to that if they were in that area,” said Peltier.
So far call volume has been otherwise relatively normal. Elsewhere in the state, hospitals and other health care providers are experiencing unprecedented call volume due to fears of the coronavirus pandemic. Many people have been showing up in emergency rooms when they didn’t need that kind of medical attention.
