GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — It’s an unusual move, but these are unusual times.
The Green Bay Police Department has suspended fingerprinting services in response to COVID-19.
“I’m sure it will resume at some point in time, but it’s currently suspended because we want to make sure we’re not bringing other people inside the police department,” said Police Commander Kevin Warych.
Warych says he expects the department to take additional steps as the pandemic continues.
“We really are monitoring the world, monitoring the news stations,” Warych told WTAQ. “We don’t act based on what the media reports. We act based on what’s best for the employee, what’s best for the community.”
At the end of the day, it’s about keeping officers on the road and responding to calls for service.
Court-ordered fingerprinting will still be available.
