GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Titletown Brewing Company is consolidating its restaurant location.
The restaurant occupied the former Chicago & Northwestern train depot at Dousman Street and the Fox River, since the brewery opened in December 1996
In a statement released Sunday on its Facebook page, the brewery says that it’ll move that restaurant location from the former brewery across the parking lot to the current brewery space, the Titletown Beerworks.
That will allow for the depot space to be opened for further development in the Railyard District, and create efficiencies.
Currently, Titletown Beerworks has its brewing operations, tap room, “Roof Tap” rooftop bar, and its banquet spaces, located at the renovated, former Larsen Canning building at 320 North Broadway. The brewery bought that space five years ago.
Factors, such as the expansion of the Railyard District, competition, cost, and adapting to changing needs, played into Titletown Brewing Company’s decision.
In a statement, Co-founder and co-owner, Brent Weycker, says it wasn’t easy.
“The depot is a landmark building and has been a great part of our success over the years. Change is never easy, but with the Railyard District gaining momentum the timing is right to open up his property for a new development. It’s exciting to see how many people and businesses want to be downtown, which was a big part of our dream and vision when we opened in ’96.”
When the brewery opened, the expansion of the Broadway District was still new, the Ray Nitschke Bridge was closed for repairs, and there were no other breweries in Green Bay.
Since the new tap room and bar opened at Titletown Beerworks, they’ve had to compete with the restaurant for customers. The brewery says that consolidating them will allow it to provide even-better service in a single space.
The statement also mentions that the old depot hasn’t been adapted to modern needs, and doesn’t have an elevator, multiple floors that make it tough for people with mobility challenges, a narrow kitchen, and small restrooms. The new space across the parking lot has all of those modern amenities.
