MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A woman who allegedly stole more than $63,000 from the trucking company she worked for has been ordered to stand trial.
Karen Schwind, 51, faces two counts of theft business setting, and 69 counts of fraudulent writings by a corporate officer.
No trial date was set Wednesday. A scheduling conference is planned for June 30, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, Marlin Steller Sr., owner of Steller & Son, reported he suspected Schwind was stealing from him after discovering a $2,000 check written to her with his forged signature.
After an audit, dozens of other questionable checks were discovered. The amounts totaled $37,607.92 in 2018 and $25,585.49 in 2019, the complaint states.
Schwind has a previous conviction for a similar incident in Fond du Lac County, but Steller said he had not done a criminal background check because she was referred by a trusted resource. Court records show Schwind was convicted of three theft counts in 2017, with a loss of $24,000 to an asphalt company.
