OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – Two area organizations are teaming up to burn the hunger pains away for those in need.
While Jake’s Diapers might be better known for its diaper program – they often help in other ways as well. That’s why they worked with the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry to give away more than 100 free toasters on National Toast Day.
“What [the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry] have found is that a lot of people struggle with basic needs and cooking healthy, nutritious meals,” says Jake’s Diapers Executive Director Stephanie Bowers, “If a family doesn’t have the tools necessary to prepare the food that they get from the pantry, then they can struggle. So toasters were just one of the needs we were able to help with, and we’re super excited by that.”
People who visited the pantry on Thursday were surprised with the gift of a brand-new toaster to help them prepare better meals.
“It’s such a common need, we decided it was something we could help with – and we had a donor who really wanted to help with toasters, so here we are,” Bowers tells WTAQ News, “It’s a fun way to celebrate hope and joy – by saying ‘here’s something to help you out, go have some toast’ – it’s National Toast Day.”
Anyone who lives in southern Winnebago County is eligible to be served by the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry. Residents just need to show a photo ID and proof of address.
