APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A three-year-old girl is dead and a 27-year-old woman is being treated for her injuries after they were attacked by the woman’s boyfriend.
Appleton Police responded to a home along Kensington Drive on the south side of the city for reports of a disturbance around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Police have confirmed with WTAQ News that the incident involved a stabbing.
“Officers responded there and did everything that they needed to do – as much as they possibly could do – to prevent any loss of life,” says Officer Meghan Cash, “The 27-year-old female, who was pregnant, is being treated for her injuries. The three-year-old female has succumbed to her injuries as a result of the incident.”
25-year old Demetrius Williams was quickly apprehended and is being charged with first-degree intentional homicide, along with two counts of attempted homicide – a second charge was added because the woman was pregnant.
The woman and her unborn child are both reportedly in stable condition. An autopsy for the girl is scheduled for Friday morning, and results will be available at a later date.
“It’s always a tragic situation any time that we’re dealing with a child, and something like this especially where there are the two victims,” Cash tells WTAQ News.
Cash adds that cases like this tend to have a drastic impact on the officers, department, and community as a whole.
It’s currently unclear what prompted the attack. The incident is still under investigation.
