GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – For the second day in a row, a candidate for Green Bay Schools Superintendent toured the district and met with the community.
“It was a fantastic experience. I had the opportunity to get out into some schools, meet some staff, see some kids in action,” says Stephen Murley.
Murley is currently the superintendent for the school district in Iowa City, Iowa. He was excited to meet with students – and says a culinary arts program cooked up lunch during his visit.
Thursday Murley’s turn to visit with students and staff around the Green Bay Area Public School District. He says meeting with those in the district is an important step for anyone who takes the role of superintendent.
“People make all the difference in the world, so being in the classroom, seeing the teachers in action – talking to them, talking to the support staff, understanding the passion that they have for working with the students here and their focus on the kids,” Murley tells WTAQ News.
He also believes hearing opinions from the community in-person is a big deal.
“The meet and greet is an opportunity for me to better understand the community. Obviously, I’ve been following at a distance through media – and being able to hear directly from people face-to-face and understand their concerns and their questions [is helpful],” Murley says.
