ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — A Dyersburg, Tennessee woman is the latest addition to the Packers Fan Hall of Fame.
Kari Bernier was born just outside of Milwaukee and became a fan when she was a kid, and that fandom hasn’t stopped her entire life. Her husband signed her up for the contest, and she won in part due to a campaign put on by her family.
“They would tell you that they won’t say much that’s negative about the Packers. I’m a little vocal in my fandom,” Bernier said Monday. “I’ve taken out people bigger than me over this.”
10 finalists were selected for the honor. Over 60,000 votes were cast from around the world during the voting period in January. Bernier beat out the rest of the contenders.
“It was an honor being nominated with these people,” Bernier said. “I happened to be the winner, but we all deserve it.” Packers President Mark Murphy presented her with the honor on Monday.
“Every team talks about how great their fans are,” Murphy told the gathered crowd, consisting of family and friends of the nominees. “But out fans own the team, so.”
Bernier won four club seats to a Packers home game, a trip to a Packers road game next year, and will have her name permanently displayed, along with the names of 21 prior honorees, at Lambeau Field.
