GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The man who allegedly pushed an 84-year-old woman to the ground and stole her purse, got away with $8, according to the criminal complaint.
Nathan Gay, 28, is charged with robbery with use of force. He returns to court March 3 for a balance of initial appearance.
The incident happened June 7 at a Ledgeview grocery store.
The woman says she asked Gay for directions to the post office at the store. He didn’t know. When she left the post office, he attacked.
“I walked directly to my vehicle and when I got near, I was pushed to the ground and while on the ground my purse was taken from me. I injured my left hand when I was knocked to the ground. It appeared as though the same male that was standing outside the store was the person that knocked me down and took my purse. It appears as though I am only missing $8.00 in cash from my purse,” the criminal complaint quotes her as saying.
Her left hand was injured but she did not require medical treatment.
An officer recognized Gay from store security footage. After repeated denials, Gay admitted to the robbery, and apologized.
“”I honestly don’t like to think that as me.” He said it was “f—ed up.” (The officer) asked what the victim did and he said, “absolutely nothing,” “ the complaint states.
“I saw an elderly lady in the parking lot. She carried a handbag. I don’t know why I did this and I am very sorry. I took the handbag from the elderly lady. When I took it she fell to the ground. I ran away south. I opened up the purse and took out cash which was about $2.00 I am very sorry I did this. I am not this type of person,” the complaint states.
If convicted, Gay faces up to 15 years in the prison system.
