ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — The Brown County Expo Center finally has a name…
Resch Expo. That’s what the Brown County Expo Center under construction in Ashwaubenon will be called. Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach made the announcement Thursday alongside former KI CEO Dick Resch.
“I was approached and told about the building and figured as long as…it’s attached to the Resch Center, it would be nice to continue the name,” Resch said.
Resch, who served as KI’s CEO between 1983 and 2019, says he’s proud to be a part of the project.
“It’ll be a very impressive sight once it’s built,” Resch told WTAQ. “We’re just happy to contribute to the well being of Brown County in particular.”
The Resch family has been in the Green Bay area for decades. Dick Resch moved to the area from New York over 30 years ago. Streckenbach praised Resch’s commitment to the area.
“They are from this area, and that is critical,” Streckenbach said. “If you drive around and look at some of the larger employers that aren’t from this area, you don’t necessarily see their names on all of these buildings.”
Streckenbach says the $92 million expo center, right next to the Resch Center, will make the region more competitive.
“We’re building something that will put us on the regional map,” Streckenbach said Thursday. “It allows us to start competing against the big boys and start to go after markets that we historically could never, ever get into.”
More sporting events, trade shows, and business ventures may come to Green Bay with the addition of Resch Expo. Streckenbach put the facility in the same category as a new airport or waterway.
Resch Expo is set to open in January of next year.
