GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The man charged with killing his ex-girlfriend and her mother is again competent to stand trial, and is now scheduled to stand trial April 20.
Jacob Cayer is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for the June 7, 2016, deaths of Sabrina Teague and Heesun “Sunny” Teague. Cayer’s competency issues and treatment have forced delays and rescheduling of the trial five times.
In November, Judge Tammy Jo Hock ordered the involuntary administration of medication to assist Cayer in regaining competency. In court Thursday, Cayer was deemed competent, allowing the case to resume.
A five-day trial has been scheduled.
Cayer again repeated his frustration with his attorneys and how they are working on his case.
The ruling means he understands the proceedings and is able to assist in his defense. It does not address his mental state at the time of the murders.
The repeated delays have been the source of frustration for the Teague family. At a hearing in September, Sarama Teague read a statement to the court describing how helpless the family feels.
Cayer faces six charges in all, including an attempted homicide count for allegedly stabbing Joel Kennedy during the incident at a Hobart home.
