LUXEMBURG, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – To expand access across Kewaunee County, a second library station was created inside a Luxemburg grocery store.
The Stodola’s IGA location on Center Drive opened earlier this month.
Luxemburg’s first library station inside Nicolet Bank was created to give the people living in the western side of the county access to library materials in Kewaunee and Algoma.
Through the library stations, patrons can have books or materials delivered from Kewaunee or Algoma Public libraries to the Luxemburg stations for pick-up. The items can also be returned to the Luxemburg locations.
Library officials say the new grocery store location will allow residents to access library materials outside banking hours.
Algoma Public Library director, Cathy Kolbeck, tells FOX 11 with just the Nicolet Bank location, the library was sending about 15-20 items to the bank about three times a week. She thinks that number will increase with two locations.
“So far it’s been going great, we have patrons that use the bank now that are excited to go to the grocery store, they don’t have to rush home from work, maybe to pick up their items at the bank, they can go on the weekends or when they’re already going to the grocery store anyway, so they can pick up their items and drop off their items there.”
Library officials say the stations also help reduce its bill from the Brown County Library. According to Wisconsin State Statute 43.12, or Wisconsin Act 420, consolidated libraries can bill non-consolidated libraries for each item checked out by residents of the non-consolidated library’s home county.
Last year, Kewaunee County received a bill for $45,117 from Brown County for items Kewaunee County residents borrowed from Brown County libraries in 2018. That’s down from its bill the previous year of $53,732.
Officials hope with the second Luxemburg library station, that bill will continue to decrease.
